Where to See the Best Improv and Sketch Comedy in NYC

New York’s comedy scene has been a hub for just about every style of show, from vaudeville productions to slapstick performances and more. But if sketch comedy or improv is what you’re looking for, check out these shows and venues for a little something out of the ordinary and a good laugh.

No matter what type of comedy you’re looking for, New York City is full of spots showcasing fresh talent  especially if sketch comedy and improv are what tickles your funny bone. From the bright lights of 30 Rock and Saturday Night Live on down, the sketch and improv scene in the city is second to none. Here are a few of the best places in town to catch a hilarious show.

Chicago City Limits

A must-see for any fan of improv comedy, Chicago City Limits is widely known as the longest-running improv show in the city and is a landmark for fans of the genre. This veteran crew was founded by George Todisco and other actors from The Second City, the prolific Chicago-based comedy troupe that revolutionized entertainment with some of the earliest organized improv performances starting in the 1950s.

The show came to New York in 1979, and now hosts improv events every Friday and Saturday. CCL also regularly provides corporate entertainment, team building training, and more for a good laugh no matter the occasion. You can see them in action at the Jan Hus Theater on 74th Street and 1st Avenue  not too far from Gardens NYC.
