The Top 5 Reasons to Spend the Holidays in NYC

There’s nothing quite like the holidays in the city. Whatever your reason for the season, stay with Affinia for a truly unforgettable getaway.

Maybe it’s snowfall in Central Park, ice skating in Rockefeller Center, or just cozying up in one of Affinia’s spacious suites on a cold winter’s night — whatever your reason for loving the Big Apple during the holidays, we’re right there with you.

These five events and destinations make the holiday season in NYC especially special:

1. Urbanspace Holiday Markets

At Union Square, Columbus Circle, and Bryant Park, Urbanspace is offering one-stop shopping for everyone on your list this holiday season. Bundle up and peruse one-of-a-kind gifts, and don’t hold back: you’ll have plenty of space to store all your purchases in your extra large Affinia suite (there’s even enough space for a Christmas tree, Hanukkah menorah, or Kwanzaa kinara!).

2. Washington Square Park Christmas Caroling

New York City is in rare form on Christmas Eve. If you’re looking to get into the Yuletide spirit, stop by Washington Square Park the night before Christmas to sing classic carols with the Rob Susman Brass Quartet. Songbooks are available for free, so don’t hesitate to bring along little ones who don’t know the words. If the night gets chilly and it’s time to turn in, relax with some board games back in your room, courtesy of Affinia.

3. Kwanzaa 2017 at the American Museum of Natural History

The Big Apple’s celebrated cultural institutions make the holidays a particularly exciting time to visit town. Included with the price of museum admission, the Kwanzaa 2017 celebration at the American Museum of Natural History highlights the seven principles of Nguzo Saba, and features live music and local artisans. While you’re enjoying the festivities, let us worry about the rest: if you order FreshDirect to your Affinia hotel, we’re happy to stock your pantry and fridge while you’re away.

4. New Year’s Eve Concert for Peace

The Cathedral of St. John the Divine is a breathtaking attraction year-round, but their annual New Year’s Eve Concert for Peace, founded by Leonard Bernstein in 1984, is a city-wide favorite. Ticketed seats are available for purchase, but some general admission seating is available if you get there early. While the cathedral is Episcopal, the concert itself is non-denominational, promoting compassion and hope for the upcoming year. If you want to attend but are tight on time, take a Lyft (we’re offering a special discount on your first three rides)! Our ride-sharing partner will help you get from point A to B so you can see everything you want to see before the clock strikes twelve.

5. New Year’s Eve Fireworks Celebration in Prospect Park

Take the subway to Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn for a free fireworks spectacular on New Year’s Eve. Live music starts at 10:30pm, and the fireworks go off right at midnight. Tens of thousands of people stop by every year, making the celebration one of the most popular in the city. If you want to warm up with a little something before heading over to Prospect Park, kick off your New Year’s Eve festivities with our Social Sips wine happy hour, every day from 5pm until 6pm.

We never miss an opportunity to revel in winter cheer at our hotels. Come stay with us and capture some of that holiday spirit for yourself!
