The Best Men's Clothing Stores In NYC

Dapper duds for dapper dudes.

New York is right up there with London, Paris, and Milan when it comes to fashion — but women’s styles tend to dominate the runways and street style blogs. Luckily, the Big Apple offers unique, high-end shopping options for everyone —yes, even the men out there.

If you’re looking for the best men’s clothing stores the city has to offer, be sure to put these five boutiques on your list. We guarantee that you’ll return from your trip looking more stylish than ever.

1. The Armoury Store

Established in Hong Kong in 2010, The Armoury’s only US location is situated in the Tribeca neighborhood of Manhattan. This outpost specializes in classic menswear, stocking an impressive ready-to-wear collection of tailored apparel, footwear, accessories, and even umbrellas from a carefully-vetted roster of artisans, many of whom have created custom items specifically for The Armoury. They also offer a range of bespoke items, from eyeglasses to Neapolitan shirts.

The Armoury Store is located at 168 Duane Street.

2. Proper Cloth

New York’s Soho neighborhood has earned its reputation as a fashion destination — but you can’t get a custom men’s dress shirt at just any of the stores that line the streets of downtown Manhattan. This is the speciality of Proper Cloth, a showroom and online store that deals in made-to-measure dress shirts in every size and style you can imagine. For those unable to visit the shop in person, Proper Cloth also offers their custom design services online.

Proper Cloth is located at 495 Broadway.

3. The Quality Mending Company

If your preferred aesthetic is a little rougher around the edges, The Quality Mending Company is the place to go for unique and offbeat items that fall a bit more into the “casual” category. While it may sound like an old-school tailor, this staple of Prince Street (it’s been there for 11 years) deals primarily in hip vintage denim, graphic band tees, leather jackets, and other showstopping garb. If you have a taste for the bright and flashy, or simply want to add an old-school varsity jacket or camouflage hunting shirt to your wardrobe, this could be the shop for you.

The Quality Mending Company is located at 15 Prince Street.

4. Antler & Woods

Though the name “Antler & Woods” may bring the wintry months to mind, this Brooklyn store aims to provide “quality goods for all seasons.” Billed as a fusion of country aesthetics and street style, you’re equally likely to find summery swim trunks emblazoned with citrus fruits as you are to find snug sweatshirts bearing a pair of, well, antlers. The selection favors bright colors and playful prints, but they also have more muted and monochrome options, so there’s something for everyone.

Antler & Woods is located at 374 Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn.

5. Stock Vintage

Not all vintage shops are located in an equally old-school building, but Stock Vintage isn’t just any store. Located in a late 1800s building in the East Village, this store will instantly transport you to the rustic days of yore, with Adirondack furniture from owner Melissa Howard’s collection and other unique antique items. Stock Vintage is, unsurprisingly, a purveyor of vintage clothing, notably specializing in menswear. You can find some serious gems here, like work boots from the 1940s, vintage Levi’s, union-made utility shirts, and more.

Stock Vintage is located at 143 East 13th Street.

After reading up on all these shops, your wardrobe might just be yearning for an update. NYC (and its shopping) is calling, but you’re going to need somewhere great to stay once you get there. Luckily, Affinia not only offers the lowest rates in town and high-quality amenities — we’ll also add a free night to your stay. Get four nights for the price of three, or three nights for the price of two. That way, you’ll be able to score a new wardrobe and still have time to flaunt it all around town.
