American Museum of Natural History: Hall of gems and Minerals

David Hockney: Drawing from Life
On view at the Morgan Library & Museum, this exhibition will be the first to focus on David Hockney’s portraits on paper and one of very few exhibitions to investigate his drawing practice. Featuring about 100 drawings, the exhibition will trace a trajectory from Hockney’s early works as a student, to his Ingres-like portraits of the 1970s, and his return to the sketchbooks in the early 2000s.
Conversations in Drawing: Seven Centuries of Art from the Gray Collection
Another exciting exhibition that is on view at the Morgan Library & Museum is Conversations in Drawing: Seven Centuries of Art from the Gray Collection. This exhibit celebrates the remarkable collection of drawings assembled by the collecting couple Richard Gray, one of America’s foremost art dealers, and art historian Mary L. Gray. Drawings include works by Rubens, Boucher, Degas, Van Gogh, Seurat, Matisse, Picasso, and Hockney, among others.
“Modern Look: Photography and the American Magazine” explores how photography, graphic design, and popular magazines converged to transform American visual culture from 1930 to 1960.
Contemporary Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama is one of the most popular artists in the world, drawing millions to experience her immersive installations. Exclusively at NYBG, Kusama reveals her lifelong fascination with the natural world, beginning with her childhood spent in the greenhouses and fields of her family’s seed nursery.
