The Best Spots in NYC to Catch an Outdoor Flick for Summer 2017

Nothing says summer like enjoying an outdoor movie under the stars.

Sweet summertime the season of bike rides, weekend ocean getaways, and action-packed blockbusters. Luckily for New Yorkers (and those visiting from out of town), there are a multitude of places where you can catch an outdoor movie during the summer months.

Whether you’re looking to spice up date night or take your kids to an animated flick, we’ve got you covered. The best part? Unlike a Broadway show or even a regular movie theater ticket, most of these screenings are free or offered at a reasonable price.

1. Pier 46 at Hudson River Park, Manhattan

Hudson River Park is hosting free movies all summer, with free popcorn and beverages available for purchase. Screenings start at dusk, and we recommend you bring a blanket for the lawn.

Highlights:
The Secret Life of Pets (July 7)
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (July 21)

2. Pier I at Riverside Park South, Manhattan

Enjoy a movie out on the pier every Wednesday from July 5 August 16 at Riverside Park. Pack a picnic, bring the family, and settle in for a waterfront movie.

Highlights:
Night at the Museum (July 5)
The Muppets Movie (August 2)

3. Westfield World Trade Center, Manhattan

Enjoy a relaxing evening outdoors at the Oculus Plaza with dinner and a movie. Guests will have the option to purchase dinner from Eataly along with locally-sourced wine and beer.

Highlights:
Serendipity (July 7)
Ghostbusters (August 5)
West Side Story (August 4)

4. Rooftop Cinema Club at YOTEL, Manhattan

The Rooftop Cinema Club is a bit pricier (tickets go for $30 a head), but we contend that the lux experience is worth the price: you’ll be able to enjoy the movie from a comfy deckchair, with your own personal set of headphones and a cocktail in hand.

Highlights:
La La Land (July 9)
The Theory of Everything (July 16)
Beauty and the Beast (July 10)
Clueless (July 18)
Grease (July 25)

5. Intrepid Museum, Manhattan

Watching a free movie under the stars on a docked warship’s flight deck what could be more unique? We recommend bringing lawn chairs and blankets, along with your own snacks and nonalcoholic beverages.

Highlights:
Good Morning, Vietnam (July 11)
The Martian (August 1)
Back to the Future (August 8)

We know there’s plenty to eat, see, and do in New York. If you want to extend your stay, Affinia is offering a sweet summer deal: four nights for the price of three, or three nights for the price of two at any of our participating hotels. Lights, camera, action!
