Celebrate New Year's Eve in NYC

Ready to have a ball this New Year’s Eve but searching for an alternative to Times Square? We’ve got you covered.

The hustle and bustle of Times Square on New Year’s Eve is simply not everyone’s cup of tea. If staying out of the cold or away from the midtown crowds is more your style, these six exceptional alternatives  from classy concert halls to hopping dance clubs will set you up to ring in the New Year in style.

How are you finding comfort and joy during the holiday months? Share your responses with us on Twitter with the hashtag #AffiniaHoliday. Prizes will be awarded for the most creative and interesting responses!

1. The McKittrick Hotel

Moulin Rouge! Need we say more? This year, Supercinema (the group behind the famous theater experience Sleep No More) draws inspiration from Baz Luhrmann’s outrageously spectacular film to throw a decadent soiree worthy of bacchanalian partiers and film fans alike.

The bash will feature mesmerizing performances, elaborate cinematic decor, and an open bar fully stocked with champagne. Attendees can choose to experience Sleep No More before heading to the main party for $225, sign up for the party alone for $95, or register to enter the venue late for $50.

2. The New York Philharmonic

For a more laidback experience, start your evening off on a musical note with a special Enchanted Evening concert presented by the New York Philharmonic. The show will feature various American classics and many cherished works by the famed Rodgers and Hammerstein. Conducted by Alan Gilbert, the show will begin promptly at 8 p.m.

3. New York Road Runners Midnight Run

Feel like fulfilling some of those New Year’s resolutions right at the stroke of midnight? Join NYRR for a fun four-mile run around Central Park as fireworks light up the night sky. Music and dancing start at approximately 10pm, and after counting down to midnight, runners hit the pavement to kick off 2017. Visit the website for entry fee and registration information.

4. BangOn! NYC

Seeking out a raucous party for the night? Look no further than BangOn! NYC. These trendy fatemakers are secretive about where their events take place, but their parties, and particularly their New Year’s Eve bash, are notoriously wild. Keep an eye on the BangOn! NYC website for ticket availability.

5. Prospect Park Fireworks

If you’re up for a free, low-key New Year’s Eve celebration, head over to the Park Slope neighborhood in Brooklyn. Sidle up with a cup of hot cocoa, and enjoy live music as fireworks sparkle above you at Grand Army Plaza, just north of Prospect Park. Music starts around 11pm, and at midnight, fireworks will be shot off from Long Meadow. Watch from Grand Army Plaza, West Drive, and Prospect Park West for the best views.

6. Freemans Restaurant

Quiet, cozy, and ruggedly sophisticated, Freemans Restaurant is the perfect place to escape from the crowds for an evening of jubilant celebration especially because the restaurant is literally tucked away at the end of a secluded alley. Festivities include an open bar, canapes, and well-fashioned cocktails, as well as music and champagne all around.
