7 Out-of-the-Box Ways to Celebrate Father's Day in New York City
Skip the crowded brunches and dinners, and take Dad on a memorable adventure you’ll both enjoy.
Is there any cooler and more exciting way to celebrate Father’s Day than with a trip to the Big Apple? From beer cruises to food tours through East Village, there’s plenty that Dad would love to see and do. Consider one of these eight dad-approved activities that you’ll both enjoy!
1. Father’s Day Beer Brunch Cruise
Cruise down the Hudson River on a beautiful yacht while enjoying a decadent brunch buffet and a seemingly endless supply of beer. Plus, you can enjoy the music of a live jazz band while you dine!
2. East Village Food Tour
If eating on a boat isn’t your thing, you and Dad can fill up on delicious ethnic cuisine with your feet firmly planted on land during this cultural food and drink tour of the East Village. You’ll sample dishes from all over the world, including Japan, India, and Europe all without ever leaving Manhattan.
3. Kayaking on the Hudson
For the more adventurous dad, kayaking on the Hudson River is the perfect activity for Father’s Day. This sporty outing will give the two of you a chance to see New York from a whole new vantage point, and nothing says bonding like avoiding other boats and trying to keep from tipping into the waters of the Hudson.
4. Go on a Cycling Day Trip
Take advantage of our complimentary bike rental program to get your heartrate up with a cycling day trip. We recommend biking up and down the Manhattan Waterfront Greenway for stunning views of the city and Riverside Park. If you’re feeling extra ambitious, cycle up to the Untermyer Gardens & Conservatory in Yonkers via northern Manhattan and the Bronx. Surrounded by Grecian mosaics, stone columns, and the various flora and fauna of the gardens, you’ll forget you’re in New York at all.
5. Share a Pint at a Historic Pub
History buff dads don’t have to spend the day in a museum to get their fill. Instead, take him to one of the most historic bars in the city. From 18th century taverns that hosted Revolutionary War soldiers to 1940s speakeasies with the ambiance of old New York, there are plenty of spots where Dad can get his fill of New York history and of cold draft beer, to boot.
6. Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum
If your dad is the type who feels the need for speed, the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum is a must-visit. The museum, built on (and in) the legendary WWII-era aircraft carrier, houses some of the most memorable aircraft in history. It also features the former Concorde supersonic passenger plane, a submarine, and even a space shuttle!
7. The Egg Rolls, Egg Creams, and Empanadas Festival
For fun that the whole family can enjoy, head over to the Lower East Side for a celebration of the rich cultures of the Chinese, Jewish, and Puerto Rican communities. You’ll find live Chinese folk music, mask-making, challah, dumpling, and empanada-making, and crafts for the kids.
