5 Can't-Miss NYC Concerts for Summer 2017

Dance all summer long at these unforgettable NYC concerts.

Summer is a time for barbecues, beaches, and outdoor concerts. Whether it’s a local band performing at a park or your favorite Top 40 artist selling out a stadium, nothing beats a summer singalong with friends and family. From the thousands of concerts on the lineup for this summer in NYC, we’ve done the hard work of narrowing the list down to the five performances or series you can’t miss.

1. The Citi Concert Series on TODAY, May 20 – September 2

Every year, the TODAY show hosts a multitude of big name artists as part of their Citi Concert Series and the shows are completely free! That means that concertgoers often show up hours in advance, so if you want to catch a glimpse of artists like Charlie Puth, Hailee Steinfeld, and Jason Aldean, be prepared to stake out a spot in line and wait.

The full 2017 lineup can be found here.

2. SummerStage Festival, June – August

This music series runs all summer, with over 100 shows in 16 parks across all five boroughs and the best part is that the shows are free (with the exception of a few benefit concerts)! With a wide array of music genres and artists, you’ll be entertained all summer long. Check out the full lineup here.

3. The Classic East at Citi Field, July 29 – July 30

Held at Citi Field, the Classic East concert series will host six bands over a span of two days. One ticket will grant you access to the entire lineup, and it’s a pretty impressive one Fleetwood Mac, the Eagles, the Doobie Brothers, Steely Dan, Journey, and Earth, Wind, & Fire will all be performing. Get your tickets here.

4. The Flamin’ Groovies at Rough Trade, August 25

If you’re looking for something a little more intimate, check out The Flamin Groovies, who will be playing at Rough Trade, a cocktail bar in Brooklyn that often features live music, in late August. Not only will the concert save your wallet, you can enjoy a refreshing beverage (or two) while jamming along.

5. Fleet Foxes at Prospect Park Bandshell, September 1 & 2

In September, indie rock band Fleet Foxes will be performing a benefit concert at Prospect Park as part of the BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! festival. Proceeds from the concert will go towards supporting the BRIC Performing Arts program.

You can check out all the other artists performing at this summer-long festival here.
